Before Mankind became aware of the full potential of ceramic materials, it was already apparent that clay was very versatile. It helped Mankind to fulfill their needs and materialize their dreams. It was the mould for all shapes and a means of expressing human feelings.

Ceramic materials have an almost unlimited practical production potential, from the simplest container to the outer layer of a spaceship, as well as an infinite variety of artistic design possibilities.

These qualities are due to chemical reactions. Accelerated micro-processes create new shapes; water, air, fire and time fuse atoms and molecules together, turning tiny mineral fragments into crystaline shapes.

When artists such as Picasso realized the potential of ceramics, they did not hesitate to express their creativity in this field. Perhaps, however the discovery was made to late for them to become more deeply involved in the alchemy of ceramics. Had they done so they would have been able to better develop its possibilities.

Having pursued for more than 40 years the link between technology, alchemy and art in the field of ceramics, Miguel Ruiz is able to present this collection as an example which justifies the aforementioned comments and transforms designs and dreams into physical reality.
